Control radio, tv from bed?

Post by JenMP » Mon Dec 03, 2018 11:32 am

My father is in an assisted living facility. He stays in bed, and just listens to one radio station all day. He has to call a nurse to turn the radio on and off. He's got some dementia, so he needs something very simple that he can easily control from bed, for both the radio and the tv.

An idea is to place a small alarm clock size radio at his bedside where he could reach it. Place bright colored stickers on the on and off buttons. Ie: red for off and green for on, if different buttons.

Another idea is to use an Alexa device to control the tv and radio.

Here's a couple of articles that talk about Alexa, Amazon Echo and Google Home to make appliances accessible by voice. and ... azon-echo/. Also take a look at Smart BlueTooth plugs so if your dad's appliances aren't bluetooth enabled you can purchase a plug that makes them accessible to voice commands (note, this is one from Amazon but there are many more types and purchasing options) ... 8294&psc=1
